Hey,
I'm Naman Gupta B.tech computer science 2nd year student from
M.I.E.T. On my semester gap i got this golden opportunity at
version2games Hyderabad. Under the internship i worked on an iOS game
that would probably be released next month. During those days i
learned a lot. One of the things i dusicussed with my head was about
use of open source software in entertainment industry. there is an
open source project called BLENDER that is used widely in gaming and
animation industry.
Even if you search for PIXAR animation studio, they want a
programmer who knows graphics programming using OpenGL under Linux
platform. Moreover the legend in gameing industry and my role model
i.e. John D. Carmack. The guy who made first 3D game does supports
Free software. That is why source code for many of his games like
Wolfenstein 3D, Doom, Quake are available under GPL licence. and even
the source code for his latest game engine idTech4 would be available
this October. Quite surprisingly "Call of Duty" is made using that
engine, COOL isn't it?
No doubt Linux and Free software is majorly used in servers and
security But is also used in Entertainment industry as well.
Do post What do you feel about the issue or you have something to add.
" Join the group and share the software you'd be free, hackers you'd
be free".
