I endorse the practice since GET's dont take the intern-ship/training period for granted and actually make the effort to learn something and improve their skills in a live industrial environment. A large no of GET's apply for our company from IT and other engineering streams and I must say that most of them are far below average (This is after we reject 99 out of 100) and just waste time for 6~8 months and then try and get a job at a higher pay package just because they have had a short stint with us. It is a waste of our time and resources and at the same time we have not added to the value of the engineer since he wants to swing from job to job at ever higher pay packages without contributing value at any job. A very small percentage are dedicated to learning and growing. Most want a quick jump for no work and a pathetic skills. I think that fresh engineers should be forced to work on a basic stipend for 1~2 years with bonds so that they are forced to earn their stripes in terms of skills and work in a good company so that they actually develop knowledge and skills. I have done this after my education and it has been of great value to me. Just my two bits. Vikram Ranade -- Mailing list guidelines and other related articles: http://lug-iitd.org/Footer
