Hello there , This is an interesting discussion, and happens to be one of my main focus fields right now , If starting python based GUI development, i would recommend Gtk, it is a great platform .
The pygtk tutorial and docs are a good starting point, only for learning though , I sincerely recommend any new devs to start of with gobject based Gtk-3 bindings, these have many really good features exposed. Infact Gtk, Gst, Glib, Gloop and gobject are all now derived on the fly from gobject introspection (gi.repository) . The fundamentals remain the same , thee are dynamic bindings maintained by gnome and hence eliminate all static compat issues and allow for bindings in previously impossible languages such as even javascript , php (existed earlier but often buggy ). It also makes for seamless mingiling of all gnome based technologies and most other libs with gi support. Additionally it has a brilliant glade editor for those who prever a gui "toolkit" ., though i sincerely ask you to first learn the basics from pure python and gtk (gobject). Feel free to mail my your queries personally . ill try to help. Cheers !!!
