Since your data (/home) is of utmost importance, I would suggest you
resize the windows partition (sda5) first to make more space for your
linux partition. The simplest way to achieve this is by following the
steps below during a fresh installation.

1. Since sda5 and sda6 are contiguous and are both logical partitions
(sda5 ends at block 35317 and sda6 starts from block 35318), I would
suggest you resize (shrink) sda5 to free up another 5 gigs (or a bit
more?). Obviously, your NTFS partition must have at least 5 gigs to
free up to start with.
2. Delete sda6, you will now see free space that is 20GB+.
3. Create a new partiton there and use that as "/".
4. Proceed with the installation normally now.

Full disclosure: I still use Ubuntu 10.10 and don't plan to upgrade
any time soon. I have never installed 11.10 but have partitioned
enough number of times to know that above should work.
