Hi The /dev directory in linux contains the device related information. tty stands for teletype and /dev/tty is your teletype i.e. your monitor . pts is pseudo terminal. the linux command prompt provided by most linux versions is a pseudo terminal because it emulates the functionality of a UNIX terminal.
