Suppose one is compiling a package from source. One accidentally forgets to set the --prefix to $HOME, so the prefix becomes /usr or something by default, which is undesirable. One remembers during the 'make' process what one has omitted- so is it necessary to scrap everything and start the whole configure-and-make process again, or can one save time by letting 'make' complete, then reconfiguring with a changed --prefix and then running 'make install'?
