I request you to kindly mention your effort for CERN systems. I'm sure Theodore Tso will help you. He is with Google now. He is doing kernel hacks over there. He can't skip the great opportunity you have for him. CERN releases Scientific Linux (RHEL derived) which has filesystems to support scientifc activity. Have you explored it?
