Yeah, that's, right gnome used to be a memory hog. However in the later version(which is shipped with hamara) the gnome team has worked on this part and the memory footprint has reduced a lot. Moreover we are also developing hamara-sugam based on lxde side by side which is targeted for low resource machines. http://www.hamaralinux.org/news/hamara-sugam.
