Richelieu's Creativity at work At the Paris Furniture Show in last Januray, Richelieu introduced several innovative pieces. At The Elysée Collection we are trying to solve the "quadrature of the circle" with our new quickship program. This newprogram has beendeveloped in collaboration with our manufacturersandwill slash our current delivery time from 16-18 weeks to 7-10 weeks. How does the new program work? 1) The manufacturer will keep in stock at the factory a limited number ofUNFINISHED items. These items will be finished according to yourrequirements. The finishing process takes no more than a week. 2) Containers will be loaded and shipped according to a predetermined schedule (every 2 or 3 weeks). The Manufacture dAmeublement de Richelieu first started in 1974 as a small workshop in the village of Richelieu nestled between the Touraine and Poitou regions in the Loire Valley of France. The village is named after the Cardinal de Richelieu whose family used to own an estate there. Cardinal Richelieu was the French chief minister from 1624 until his death in 1642. A retired businessman bought the company in 1980 and gave the sleepy workshop a huge boost by dramatically changing the look of the furniture. The new owner understood that consumers tastes had changed! For the first time, the furniture was antiqued and distressed to look like genuine antiques. It was a breakthrough in the furniture industry, an innovation that changed the way antique reproductions looked forever. The new finishing technique and look was an instant success. To meet the demand, Richelieu had to expand its factory and production capabilities twice in the 80s.
