Hello All,
I hope that this is an appropriate post - if not then
please advise.
During the course of my life as a developer I have managed to avoid the
need to perform language recognition. I have always wanted to go there
but on those few occasions when I made the attempt I was soon defeated
by the confusion I experienced when attempting to use the tools that I
found (I have managed to maintain my self respect in spite of this). I
recently began work on a project that requires the parsing of XPath
expressions. Should I code it myself or find a tool? Searching around I
became aware of ANTLR and the XPath grammars contributed by the user
community. Okay says I, here I go again. It took a little getting used
to but in a reasonable amount of time I was modifying the grammar that
I downloaded, viewing the results with ANTLRWorks, producing a
corresponding tree grammar and adding code to process the AST. Hurray,
hurry, I'm on my way!
I just want to say thank you very much for making it easy for
me to enter the world of language recognition.
Best Regards,
Robert
