Dear List,

Regarding the CSX derailment near East Gary, IN the other day, here is some
of what I have learned so far:

Yesterday CSX had a bad derailment in the East Gary, IN area which
effectively shut down the Garrett Sub between Barr Yard and Garrett, IN.
There are currently some 20 dead and parked trains between East Gary and
Garrett including a petroleum coke train (CSX K318-08) from Rincon, GA,
holding at Walkerton,IN. The result is that CSX is accepting no eastbound
traffic of any kind in Chicago at this time. They are also not accepting any
iron ore loads off WC for at least the next day or so.

The last train from the WC to the CSX was a Middletown Ore load (CXMTLD-22,
CSX Symbol K188-24) yesterday and that went via the EJ&E at Leithton, IL to
Curtis Yard Gary, IN. Of course, the EJ&E is not taking any CSX eastbound
traffic either. The Barr Yard bypass trains, (FDBOC) are not affected by
this, as they go south at Chicago Heights off the EJ&E. These are trains for
either Nashville or Memphis. Needless to say, CSX is VERY tight for crews and
will pick and choose which trains they run VERY carefully when the smoke
clears.

That is about all I have on the situation right now. I will try to fill in
the details as they become available.
