Basically all other distributions except Slackware use System V
init, while Slackware uses BSD init. If you are already an Unix
user and want to try out Linux, you will find that you are at home
with Slackware if you have been using BSD before while you will find
yourself familiar with RedHat/SuSE/Debian if you have been using
Solaris or any of the Sys V clones.
The other differences have been spelt out by Indra pretty well.
