Hi Kamal,

Congrats! since I already knew from Navneet that you guys use Unix, I was
rather sure that the installation wouldn't prove to be of much pain for
you, glad to know that you succeeded.

Since you want a feature-mapping vis-a-vis Win9x, particularly Add/Remove
Programs, please understand that most distributions use different packaging
schemes to ship binaries (and even the souce)...you may refer to one of my
earlier posts to the list on difference between the distributions. each
major distro use they own package-manager utils. Since you have installed
Red Hat you can use RPM (Red Hat Package Manager) which can be run from the
CLI or if you have X installed you may prefer to use "glint" which is a
visual package-manager front-end to Red Hat.

If you have X installed, the easiest way to get online is to use netcfg.py
(Network Configurator Utility) script to setup you ppp0 interface. Assuming
that you get your internet connectivity through VSNL you have to use a chat
script (Satyam, the other available ISP here uses PAP for
user-authentication).

However, if you have run (I hope you have and if you haven't you should)
the pcqupdt script on the CD, and have installed KDE, you can use kppp to
connect to the net....its look and feel is very much like Dial-up
Networking under Windows. (for details on kppp setup, I suggest that you
take a look at the PC-Quest site www.pcquest.com/linux and look through the
articles on dialup-connectivity, they are excellent for starters.)

BUT if you haven't loaded X, you can still use minicom to set the
connection and then fireup the pppd daemon....if you try it this way and
face any difficulties...send a query to the list and badger Arup (Kanjilal)
for posting the his ready-made script....after all he showed some of us the
right way to do this..(Note to Arup ---> this is a veiled reminder for
submission of the mini-HOWTO :)))

AND please read up all the related HOW-TOs ...these will give you all the
foundation you need to help you on your way.

HTH,
--Indra.
