Dear members,

By now you all should have recieved the mail from JPM about the payment
status (PAID) of our domain name registration. On behalf of everyone in
ILUG-Cal, I would like to thank him very much for helping out in this
manner.

Here is a run-up to the payment and post-payment scenario (so that
transparency regarding the functioning of our LUG is maintained) for your
information and record :--

1. During the earlier ILUG-Cal meetings it was decided that we are going to
have our own domain. I was entrusted with the task of collecting the
contributions towards this end, registering the domain and the see to it
that the payment is made.

2. The ilug-cal.org domain was registered on 4th May, 1999 (By then,
Russell and Sudhir had agreed to provide us free domain hosting, in lieu of
us acknowledging that our web-site is sponsered by Netshooter. A big thanks
goes to both of them and Russell in particular for helping us).

3. A ILUG-Cal Domain registration fund was constituted and the initial
collection was made during the LUG meeting held on 9th May, 1999 -- a sum
of Rs. 1700/- was collected.

4. On 16th June, 1999 I recieved the Domain Registration Invoice (Invoice #
6930846) from Network Solutions. The due date for making the payment was
20th June, 1999.

5. Since we were still quite a bit short of the required amount, I wrote to
Network Solutions to allow us a month's time to make the payment. I shortly
recieved a reply from Network Solutions, that this was possible and our
registration will be put on a special hold status till we paid up.

6. On 13th July, 1999 I recieved the "FINAL NOTICE" from Network Solutions
for making our payment.

7. The last collection was made by me on 16th July, 1999 from Pc
(Kankaria). At this point the ILUG-Cal Domain registration fund finally
stood at Rs. 3300.00 only, sufficient for our purpose. Now we needed to
quickly transfer the money (US $70) to Network Solutions Inc. in the US.

8. During my visit to the office of JPM on the same day, he offered to help
us by having someone in the US pay the amount due. I suggested that we hand
over the money to him later (as I wasn't carrying it with me then). We both
agreed on this. In order to make the payment I left with him a copy of the
invoice.

9. During the informal meeting called by me on Sunday (18th July), JPM told
me that he has forwarded the Invoice to his contacts in the US. I offered
to hand over a sum of Rs. 3000/- to him, as agreed upon earlier. But, JPM
would not have any of it. He suggested that since the LUG *is* going to
need some funds of its own, let this amount that has been collected through
member contributions, form part of that common kitty.

10. <IMPORTANT> So for the time being, the entire collected amount of Rs.
3300/- is being held by me on behalf of ILUG-Cal. The members are hereby
requested that at the next meeting some decision be taken regarding how
this money is going to be handled, and by whom </IMPORTANT>

Regards,
