Since reading the report on Slashdot of 11Mbps wireless NICs and hubs
(manufactured by Apple in collaboration with Lucent Technologies), I have
been wondering whether for radio-based home networks (with 2 or more
computers) a radio hub ie. a base station is a must?

PS. Incidentally, at the meeting on last Sunday Inigo once again mentioned
that he wants to try interfacing a ham-radio transciever with a modem (to
benefit from the built-in error correction of the modem) connected to a
Linux box, and try to achieve a two-way radio-link for datacomm with
another system setup in the same manner. (Right now Inigo is anxiously
waiting for his HAM license to arrive) Does anyone know of someone doing
something like this? Any hints or pointers?
