Folks,

Yet Another Minutes Of The Last Meeting:

To begin with, our largest turnout ever! 14 penguins flappin their
flippers in a row! The headcount is as follows -

Inigo (Came very late, was chased with the Official Umbrella)
Arup Kanjilal (Also very late, tried to hide the Official Umbrella)
Indranil (Equally late, somehow escaped the Official Umbrella)
Riddhi Burman (First time at the lug, good to see you brother)
Rajat Ratan (? handwriting was difficult to parse)
Shankar R. Swaminathan (New face, welcome aboard!)
Sanjeev Newari (? Again difficulty in parsing)
Rohit Shah
J.P.Mathew
Sumantra Roy (Case of The Confused Penguin, new face I think, not sure)
Suvendra Chakroborty (New face, but handwriting parser has huge bugs)
Partha Pratim Ghosh (Keeper of aforementioned Official Umbrella)
Darshan Shah
Sanjay Kumar

If I have left anyone out, feel welcome to beat me with the Official
Umbrella at the next meet.

Most of the time was spent on chalking out our strategy for the upcoming
seminar. We decided to kickstart operations by setting up our first demo
machine. This holy activity will take place possibly at the Astral offices
at Salt Lake, coming Sunday. Before we get into the details, here is a
quick list of the topics, and the associated speakers at the seminar.

* Thaths Presentation
* Demo on X, Windowmangers, Desktops and X protocols - Rajarshi, Arup
* Internetworking       - Riddhi
        Firewalls
        Proxy Servers
        Webservers
        Samba
        Connectivity with NT
* Office applications   - Inigo
        Staroffice
        WordPerfect
* Graphical application - Speaker not chosen, gimp supporter wanted!
        Gimp
* Java/Apache/Oracle Demo - Arup (Need more ppl!!)
* Mind boggling app - Speaker not chosen, wheres Indra?!
        VMWare

All of us have to pitch in for developing the presentations. What would be
good if each designated speaker could build his own presentation material.
The presentations will be designed in HTML (really portable stuff!!),
graphically oriented people are welcome to start on these as soon as the
material is more or less frozen upon. I feel that this process will be
really simplified if one of could come up with an HTML template that can
be used by the rest of the developers. Comments? Suggestions? Volunteers?

The following is the base hardware config:
------------------------------------------
Proc - 200mmx and above
Mem - 64 MB +
Video - S3Trio64 or Cirrus 544x, 2MB+
HDD - 2GB Free Space
Sound - Soundblaster 16 for visual demo machines

The software is as follows
--------------------------
Machines for the visual demos will have:
X
Enlightenment and Windowmaker (both are windowmanagers)
KDE Applications
Gimp
StarOffice
Wordperfect
VMWare
MpegTV (this added as an afterthought for demoing video)
Netscape

Machines for server demos will have:
Apache
JServ
JDK1.1.7v3
JSDK
Oracle (this may be on a machine by itself)

WindowsNT and 95, for demoing interconnectivity.

Apart from the above, it can be assumed that the standard RedHat
packages will be installed and available.

All machines will be running the latest moderately stable kernel.

All software for the visual demos, apart from the X server will be
built from the CVS sources. The source integrity will be verified a day
before we download the lot. If it is found that the latest sources are not
stable enough, we will get slightly older stable development snapshots.

That covers the actual seminar content. About the venue, it was decided
that a few of us will meet the authorities at SXCS after the 4th of August
to try and convince them to give us the Hall at a discount. Operational
details re the required telephone line will be handled by Partho and Inigo
provided we get the Hall. The other alternative to the Hall is the
Audio Visual Room, which will definitely be cheaper, but will be a lot
more limited than the Hall.

The other two tasks that need to be urgently taken care of are:
*) Acquiring the RedHat6.0 box pack from GT (Indra!! Indra!!)
*) Emailing the Staroffice people for a media kit for the demo

The last point mentioned was the ilug-cal website. We will have to start
work on design asap. I would like us to finish the contribution by the end
of August 2nd week. The design will be up by then (I promise).

And thus ended Yet Another Meet. Some of the penguins waddled over to the
watering hole to imbibe large quantities of caffiene in H2O, the others
sadly decided 'twas too late to wet their beaks and went their respective
ways.

On an ending note, some of will be meeting at SaltLake the coming weekend,
if enough interest is shown for being present, times and contact points
will be posted on the list. Whoever wants to be a part of it, please raise
your right flipper on the list.

Thats all folks!

Arup
