I would recommend the Celeron 300 Mhz. Why ? Because, if you have
spoken to people who work for Intel, you will realise that the
intial Celerons were just a PII stripped off its cache. This is in
contrast to redesigning the Celerons. This being the case, the
Celeron 300s can be overclocked to upto 500 Mhz without any problems
at all. (Infact people have overclocked a 300 to 650 mhz with a
nitrogen cooler without any problems.) But anyway, later on Intel
realised that this overclocking business was eating into their PII
market and thus 333 and upwards, all the Celerons are locked, in the
sense that they can only be run at the designated clock speed.
I have been running an experimental Celeron 300 overclocked at 450
Mhz for the last 6 months continuously (without a single reboot)
without any problems.
However, all that applies only if you want to save some dough and
ONLY go for the Celeron class processors. But, I would still say
that you fork out a bit more and go for the full class PII
processors. They are dirt cheap anyway after the PIIIs came out into
the market.
