Well, whatever it is, but if I understand you correctly, you are
telling me that you have only one ethernet card. If that is the
case, it is totally wrong. The whole idea is NOT to let the bogus
IP (192.168.x.x) packets to get to the outside world. Knowing that
ethernet uses broadcast channels, if you do not have two different
interfaces for the two different networks, your configuration is
never going to work, simply because IP routing will fail if 2
different networks resolve to the same interface. It will not
know where to forward an incoming packet or there will be an
excessive flood and the CD part of CSMA/CD will come into play.
This will inhibit any data communication from taking place. Aliasing
two different IPs to the same card works so long as there is no
forwarding of packets taking place.
