Hi Arup (The Kanjilal),
Do you remember our discussion about how/if it was possible to create a
standard setup method (as contained in a file or something) that could be
used to automate a Linux install on a large number of machines
(particularly useful while doing a whole network) or not having to pull in
the wanted features every time you have to re-install....
# include <the_rest_of_the_gang.h>
Well, it seems that with RHL 6.0 there is a wy of doing this provided the
installation method used is either CD-ROM or NFS.Its is being made possible
by using the "Kickstart" feature of RHL 6.0's installer. You need to create
a file called ks.cfg (in DOS readable format), it will contain the
installation info, from partitions to mount-points, boot-loader options,
installation options to choose from (which rpms to install), set the IP
address, configure X....the list goes on....The feature is documented in
the RHL manuals. A HOWTO is already in place at
http://www.redhat.com/mirrors/LDP/HOWTO/KickStart-HOWTO.html ...Interesting
stuff this....
More interesting stuff : there is a web-site http://www.fezbox.com ...the
site guides you through a series of web-based forms which will even create
the bootdisk for the installation.
You know folks, I am being tempted to propose inclusion of the KickStart
feature for Linux-Interact '99...what do u say..??? Now if only someone
provide me with a box to try out this Kickstart stuff...JPM can u give me
a machine for trial (the CD-ROM I can bring over, if there is no spares
lying around)?
Cheers,
