Hi, From: Ignatius Nayan D'Rozario <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> > #2. The standard RH install required no more than > a few presses of the Enter > Key to get things going .... Good news for all the > newbies ! Maybe we should > have a section on "How to install Linux...." in > our upcoming event ! Not so good...RedHat should ask the users whether s/he is a guru or a dummy and allow different levels of help... having everything work out of the box is fine....but that kind of makes us forget how to do it actually by hand (a piece of knowledge which can save your backside in times of trouble). > #1. Linux-India had a big disccussion on color ls ...search the archives from www.egroups.com/list/linux-india/info.html also IIRC, there is some info on the same topic somewhere under /usr/doc ... and its strictly my personal opinion --> the "DOS-like" aliases suck bigtime!! > #3. I have gotten my boxen to mount my Win98 Hey... hold on! The word "boxen" is the plural of "box" in hackerspeak ....since when did you get hold of another machine??? ;-) > how do I mount my SCSI Drive ? Is it /dev/sr0 or > is it /dev/scsi0 ? To my limited understanding of all things SCSI...the first drive should be /dev/sda1 ...check out how your CD-Writer is detected by doing a 'dmesg | less' after you boot up.... > to-be-existing boxens..... I realized that what > seems 'easy' to ppl like us who > have been at it since kernel 1.x is NOTHING like > that to others ! > > Indra ! Are to listening ? At your service, kind sir......heard all your ravings!!! *grins* (But what do I listen to????) > #5. Star Office AND Wp informs me that they will > works well ( i.e. fully) > ONLY for 30 days ! Shit ! Here we go again ! > Compared to them Siag is more peaceful ! Hey.... thats their standard licencing baba! if you don't like that don't use that ....and pls go easy on the 4-letter words ;-) > In conclusion I declare that the CHIP double CD > Collection is worth it > especially since it comes with a WHOLE suite of > Stuff ! I beg to differ....the CHIP CDs were highly publicised for carrying the SO 5...which they did.... but like all brain dead species, they bundled SO5 with RHL6 whereas SO 5.1is what runs with RHL6.0 (reason being glibc compat issues)...this goes to show that don't read the docs...there is only one thing left to say to them --> R*T*F*M Now, if they take few years to mature as you have said...what we will get from them may be vintage but definitely *NOT* the up-to-date & the latest....
