Shalom fellow penguins,
Some of you must be wondering why I hadn't posted any follow-up to our Linux-Interact
'99... for one, my uncle (kaka)
passed away on the 4th September, and so I have to be with my family. And I have gone
down with a nasty flu since the
last few days. Anyway, Linux-Interact was a _SUCCESS_, in the sense that it will
probably be instrumental in bringing
together the Linux community in West Bengal. You see, although no one posted
anything, the word has gone out in a big
way.
Flu happens to make me slightly nostagic, and is the cause of this posting :-)
When we first met on the 26th of January, 1999 at SXC for our very first meeting,
there were four of us....Inigo would
also have been there, if he hadn't missed up. Anyway, during those ancient times, it
was felt that if we even managed
to get 10 or 15 members, we would be in great shape. In fact, I remember that the day
we crossed the 10-member mark, we
celebrated the occassion.
In the last 9 months, we had about 15 - 20 people leaving the list, still when I
checked it today, our mailing list had
67 names & there are more people who are without internet access, who although our
members, are not on the list. We can
assume the total membership of ILUG-Cal to be 70.
Not all of us are from the city. Many are from outside, some due to their place of
work being outside, others -- well
they live there. Some of the people who are active on the Linux-India list have joined
the list recently -- Rutvick and
Swaps for instance. In the last 5 days we had as many members joining us. May our
tribe thus increase....
Amen,
--Indra.
PS. In the excitment of Linux-Interact I forgot to invite upon the stage, the first
female penguin of our tribe who
managed to come to the seminar....who says that geeks are only guys :)
PPS. Sorry for babbling on like this...must be the fever...already feeling
light-headed.
