Hi,
VNC ( or Virtual Network Computing ) is a remote display utility for both
Unix and NT workstations ( simmilar to PC anywhere or remotely possible ).
It follows an architecture simmilar to X11 ( that is Client-server model )
but is different. VNC comes as a VNC server and a VNC client . The VNC
server runs on my host on particular display number - for example the
default X runs on display:0 , but my VNC server will run on display:1 or 2
or whichever is available. So all my X-apps, window manager, etc run on
Display : 1 or 2 as if it was an X-server.
Now using a vncviewer ( which is on a remote computer on the netwrok ) i
connect to my server i get the entire display on my remote computer. The
advantage of VNC is that it uses a very light weight protocol , which means
i can get remote X displays on my home pc even if i'm connected via a
28.8.kbps modem.
For more details you can look up the VNC site at :
