Hi friends,
For a long time now, we have been talking about coming out with some sort of ILUG-Cal
internal distribution or s/w
update pack on a CD, which could become a regular feature so that the members who are
not able to make heavy downloads
can still enjoy the benefits of the latest goodies. Besides, it would also make it
possible for the heavy downloaders
to share amongst each other what they have d/led, instead of replicating the effort.
Thus, it could also help bring
down the cost (Internet + telco charges) of staying updated.
To give this endeavor the initial start-me-up push, I have been working the last few
nights to get together different
stuff on a CD, that may be useful. Here is a brief gist of the items that have made it
to the cdimage directory till
now. If you have d/led something interesting lately and would like to share it with
others please let me know.
Likewise, if you feel that something is missing or something shouldn't be there,
please feel free to say so...
ok....nuff said...here goes....
Cheers,
--Indra.

16. Realplayer 5.0 from Realnetworks for listening to alll those streaming media files
that we love to listen to.
17. Realplayer G2 (Beta) ..from the same guys, it is in beta so somehow it crashes
whenever I try to register my copy
over the Net....otherwise, it is a picture of stability. Defintely the thing to go for.
18. Rpopen (a small patch to fix a DSP glitch that happens when you try running the
Realplayer 5.0 on a 2.2.x kernel.
19. SATAN (the olde faithful -- > Security Administrator's Tool for Analyzing Networks)

21. SpeakFreely 7.1 (a free, opensource Internet Telephony tool)

the distros are still bundling
the old 5.0 version)
23. VMWARE (The same stuff that had so many of you drooling over at the
Linux-Interact, this version comes with a
30-day evaluation license). I have also bundled the customised XServer and the VMtools
package for your convenience...
24. Webmin (The lastest version of this very useful package, that some many peopple
seem to swear by)
25. WindowMaker 0.60 (The latest version of WM, it comes with good support for both
Gnome and KDE)
26. WordPerfect for Linux Personal Edition 8 (it would have made it to this list if
for no reason than the fact that I
can't still stop gloating over the fact that I was the 3rd person in the entire world

minutes after its release on the Net.;)
27. Some KDE, WindowMaker and E themes are also making it to this CD, as does some
high-res wallpapers from
digitalblasphemy.com
28. These days the Macronix MX86250 card is doing rounds in the market among the PCI

natively supported under Linux, so I have put th e driver from Macronix's web-site on
this CD as well.
29. THE KERNELS, our life-blood, and ambrosia to our wheezing systems ;) .... both
the latest stable and devel kernels
will make it to the CD.
30. Misc. utils....ie. the WM Theme Installer, the Install-sendmail script (use not
recommended, I mean why should you
have any easier if I had to bust my ass trying make some sense out of the .cf files ;D)
=====================================
That is all the software that have made it to the directory tree uptil now....your
opinion would be appreciated.
There are tons of bundled documents on the CD, not necessarily dealing with the s/w
that has been put together. They
range from the complete set of Intel Pentium manuals, books on Assembly language, to
the latest verion of the Jargon
File, to crytography and privacy issues. The famous articles by Eric S. Raymond ("The
Cathedral and the bazaar", and
"Homesteading on the Noosphere"), a copy of Holloween documents, to commentaries on
where is R. Stallman headed, the
latest release of the HOWTOs....oh! I almost forgot..the entire Linux-India Mailing
list archives also make it to the
CD.
There is simply too much of documentation to be documented in this manner, so I am not
going to make a futile attempt
like that. Once you have the CD, you can see for yourself what is there on it.
I have also thrown in some MP3, Realmedia and such similar files, so that you can try
out the RealPlayer G2 without
having to go online.

Ahh! here is the abbreviated output of the du -h command on the /home/indra/cdimage
