Of late, there has been a spate of free ISPs in US, notably NetZero
www.netzero.net, Altavista www.microav.com and some more. These ISPs
mostly have MS-Windows based software for connecting. Now , there is
one free ISP that can run on Linux. Here goes...

It'd most likely be long distance for you but check out
http://www.nocharge.com No ads, no fees, nothing but a PPP link to the
net. Perfect for Linux users who dream about things like NetZero or
other free internet providers.

Hi Jeff, and All,

You're right, unless you live in Washington this local freebie won't do
you much good. But it is good to see a freebie that has the ability to
connect via Linux and/or the Mac. As Jeffrey Gold has mentioned a
couple
times of late around the various mailing lists touching on the Free ISP
subject, the main one that might work is FreeWWWeb. It's a huge
download, 22mb. That's because FreeWWWeb has been built into Netscape's
Communicator including it's own dialer. And as it does not use Windows
Dun system to log into the Net, I can only believe from Jeff's comments
that it will work on a Linux system. So, credit card problem
notwithstanding, here's the address...
