Start up yast. Go to the system administration screen and add the user root
and set the group as root and wheel. That should do it. Get a newer version
of Yast , say 1.01 .
If this does not work as you most probably do not /will not have rights to
add users, login as Linux single( by typing single at the Lilo Prompt)  and
change the password from the root prompt, again by using yast or by a simple
useradd root , passswd ***** combo.
