>From the CLUE Newsletter: Excerpts:

Enter NC, version 2. The NC is a box that has an operating system loaded
on a CD. There is no hard drive, but they have both a 56K modem and
ethernet card and some amount of RAM (probably 64 MB). The price is
slated to be around $200. Not bad for getting schools and new users onto
the net.

There have been reports on Slashdot (http://slashdot.org) and ZDNet
(http://www.zdnet.com) that the new version of the NC is running Linux.
Ellison did not specify what operating system ran his NC demonstration
machines, but Netscape under X-Windows (Motif) does not look like
Netscape under Windows. The NCs definitely were running X-Windows and
given the fact they the machine booted of a CD rom in about 30 seconds,
I have to
believe that only Linux could be able to do this. Thus, even if Oracle
does not officially acknowledge Linux as the OS for the NC, it will not
be too long before the truth is known.
