To begin with congrats on your new CD Writer !
cdrecord comes with Red Hat Distros you will find it in the
RPMS directory ( I realized much to my chagrin after having
downloaded the tarball !)
I got some programs from fresh meat that automate the stuff
which you want to do ans even provides and X based GUI... I
had a one which figured out how much data you had i the
directories and then even splits the across n no of CDs if
necessary... I tried it out but then I lost it when I
removed it from my hard drive after burning it and then
realized that the CD was a dud !!!
