Hello Listers !
For quite some time, ilug-cal has been doing its job to spread
Linux amongst Calcuttans which has been rightly shown on the steep ascent
of membership numbers. Indra , can you give us a chrono-fig ?

Could we organise a small workshop taking up a school or college
as a target to popularise Linux ? The seminar could be divided into some,
or all (and even more, with your suggestions) of the heads
        o Live demos, installs
        o Linux Philosophy
o Deployment statistics and reliabililty and support aspects
           vis-a-vis other brands 0f hOSes.
        o Scientific Computing
        o Basic Linux
        o GUI and Games

PLEASE SUGGEST OTHER categories.. FEEL FREE TO EXTERMINATE SOME
OF THE ABOVE.

What more we could even volunteer to install Linux in the
home PCs of students if they are interested after the seminar and probably
link them to their favorite ISP via Linux so taht they can bid farewell
to Internet Exploder and Outlook Express (which I still believe to be one
of the better products of MS around for SOHO, although bloated). Helping
them to install Linux would be more like it.. A true Linuxite teaches to
catch fish, does not sell them :) -Ancient chinese adage
mutiliated in my hands.

We would have to prepare a team of speakers, course materials,
OHP's, demo-ready computers and a lot of planning needs to be done which
is obviously not_a_uno_homo_sapien_job.

This is targetted for Mid-Late FEBRUARY, so please hurry with you
suggestions and reccos.

Shourya
