Hi all,

Forget Halloween which is still a long way off, for now beware of the ides of March...
coz big brother M$ is once again
upto to its proprietory tricks. In a bizarre enactment of the modus operandi expressed
in the "in"famous 1998 halloween
documents, it turns out that M$ has taken the Kerberos authentication standard (an
IETF standard) and extended it
in-house to develop the proprietory "M$-Kerberos".

In true M$ style it has "forgotten" to document the change, although it is saying that
it may/will document the changes
they have made. This can throw a spanner in the works for Samba servers and Win2k
desktop machines. Moreover, by
implementing this change to the data-authorisation field which used to be left blank
in all Kerberos implementations,
it looks as if M$ is once again trying to force its "standard" as the de-facto
standard.
