1. HTML mail is a strict No NO on this list
2. You seem to have enabled auto dns in wvdial or if you are using kppp, you
have clicked - disable existing dns servers. The list of dns servers that
is sent at the end of PPP negotiation during your connection startup is
being written to /etc/resolv.conf
3. IMAP will drop you into your home directory. For safety, many IMAP
implementations creat virtual folders in your inbox only.
4. do not fiddle around with /etc/hosts if you really want to use sendmail-
newer versions INSIST on a working DNS server.
5. do not bother sending mail within India using the sendmail on your
machine as a public mail server. It will be rejected. Your hostname has to
be set to the one which is accessable via public DNS entries over the net.
VSNL is the ONLY ISP with sufficient intelligence to keep DNS entries for
dial up users- that has to be your hostname - and since the law of
probability states that you will most probably ( 1/ netblock size of your
ISP) never get the same hostname twice - you are guaranted to never receive
mail back from it. Use sendmail -bq

Subject: [ilug-cal] mail server
i am facing a problems in configuring my mail server....
what i want is to use my linux system(Rhl 6.1) as server ..... through which
i can send and recieve mails from all rest of the comps on windows (using
outlook express)...now for this i got
1. sendmail running
2. fetchmail running
3. imap
the problem is
1. nslookup is not responding.....when i have my nameserver 192.168.1.1
entry ....it gives a error
*** can't find server name for address 192.168.1.1 : No response from server
*** Default servers are not available
so i removed all entries from resolv.conf....now it gives
Default server : myhost.domain.com
Address : 0.0.0.0
so any entry in resolv.conf gives the above error....... also saw
something....when i aws connected to the net using vsnl......it
automatically added 3 lines in resolv.conf
domain vsnl.net.in #temp
nameserver 202.54.1.30 #temp
nameserver 202.54.15.30 #temp
can somebody suggets what can be the probable prob in my config.....i am
able to ping all the comps on the network(by there name even)....have
entries done in/etc/hosts
2. i am able to send and recieve local mails from my outlook exp. on various
comps......but want that i can retrieve mail from and send mails to various
accounts on the net...... what shud be the config......
3. in outlook for imap config..... to which folder shud i point.....
/var/spool/mail/user or /home/user/mail ??? at present am using to
/var/spool/mail/user....... hope fetchmail delivers all mails here.....
4. again when use fetchmail......what i see is some thing like this....( i
have ./fetchmailrc in my home )
2 mesages for abhijain9 at pop.mail.yahoo.com 58711(octets)

............... not flushed
reading message 2 of 2 (38786 octets) fetchmail:SMTP error:
451<[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
.... sender domain must resolve
