We hadn't responded to this thread earlier, but now it seems that it is necessary to
come out with an official statement
on this. If in fact there /is/ a channel #ilug-cal on irc.dal.net, it is in /no/ way
endorsed by this forum
(ILUG-CAL.ORG). While we are for enthusiasm and spread of liunx through individual as
well as shared efforts, we /don't/
support people encroaching/squatting on the ILUG namespace.
The ILUG namespace belongs to Indian Linux Users Group (www.linux-india.org), ILUG-Cal
is a subset of that and belongs
to ILUG-CAL.ORG. If this "#ilug-cal" channel has anything to do with Linux users in
Calcutta, we would say that whoever
registered that room is guilty of encroaching on the ILUG namespace.
Let us also mention in this context, that there has been unsuccessful attempts in the
past to replicate content hosted
by ILUG-Cal website and spin it into "The Official Website of Calcutta Linux Users
Group". In the light of all this, we
find such an attempt to be utterly deplorable. Call the channel #linux-calcutta or
anything except #ilug-cal or
#ilug-calcutta and we have no problem.
