I have already mailed you abt the comment. As for OSes I had both Win98
& Win2k, along with Linux until recently when my MOBO went crunch (No
BSD until I figure out a decent way of getting BSD and LInux to share
the swap space (i do not like 'slices') but I do like the BSD TCP/IP
stack). To be fair there isn't much wrong in using things like
Dreamweaver of Photoshop? Is there ? :) So in moot I do not much
disagree with you on live-&-let-live situation.
But as for the address (& the bookmarks, mine weighs in at 1.09Mb and I
like it...) you could transport it to Netscape without too much of a
hassle, by just exporting as a CSV file which Netscape accepts quite
well.
With a bit of hunting around I have managed to even get all ther filters
( and I have MANY) across to Netscape and have even retained my entire
structure of the folders & sub folders (to use a 'Win' term) across.
You know better than me that Netscape files can be transported without
batting an eyelid over to Linux and will resume functioning on Linux.
The mailboxes are automatically rebuilt when you compact them.

Let us say that you hate the guts of the mozilla guys and want to 'jump
ship' & ONLY your address book of OE prevents you from doing so.
As earlier dump your Address Book into a plain text file and just insert
a "mailto:" before all your email addresses and put them in a HTML file
(with a few more jinks and ) and put it on some free web site(multiple
ones, in case things go blink on one. Voila ! You have what you were
trying to do with LDAP et al. Most browsers seem to like this sort of a
solution and pop up their mail client of choise when a link is clicked
(assuming u r on a gui)
With more time the same text dump could be used as flat file for things
greater... But I'm slightly lazy and have stopped at the level mentioned
above.
This I would assume would keep an ordinary mortal like me happy until I
come across loads of dough to get some sort of net ready PDA or some
thing :) At that point I would seriously consider the from/to
"anything/anywhere" component.
Thus, saying that you stayed on Win b'coz of OE + Add Book sounds sorta
weak as an excuse. I personally believe we (unlike Parthoda et al) who
have Win on our machines apart from other fondly nurtured beasts, do so
for the sheer variety of games/packages etc that already exist for the
platform, where Linux is still WAY behind (though catching up these
days).

My last one was DieHard2 ...Waay back :) I nearly had the same
experience but got jerked back into my senses as someone I knew got the
Virus before me and phoned me up to complain abt the "Screen Saver which
does not work" :)
