Hi,
A big thank you to all those who
wrote in to help. I'll report the things that I did. They do not follow any
logical sequence because there is no such thing when a person is desperate! ;-)
Anyway:
My /etc/ppp/options file had just two
lines:
noauth
lock
With this I could just ping my local and remote IP
addresses and not my isp or either of its DNS servers.
I added
defaultroute
After this when I tried to connect I couldn't
connect at all.
Then I added
noipdefault
I could connect after this but couldn't ping to
anything at all!
Then I searched the net and somwehere someone had a
problem similar to mine and after looking at the solution given to him I
added
asyncmap 0
crtscts
connect
I have no clue so as to what I did. I do hope that
to many of you who understand Linux this gives some insight no matter how small.
As for me I am happy that I have a blazing fast net connection - at least
compared to what Microsoft Windows used to give me. I have transfer rates of
3.5K and above with Linux...
Again a big thank you to everyone...
