About the connection refused, there are a few things you could explore: 1) Check whether the daemon is running or not (no gaurantee for the ftpd) 2) Check whether connections are allowed or not (hosts.allow, hosts.deny, xinetd) 3) Check whether your services need reverse lookup (Indra, if you remember, we had to setup reverse dns entries at astral when we were setting up the main server). 4) Look at /var/log/messages for an idea of whats going on - there should be msgs there saying something ot the other.
