Warez may not seem to be a real big deal, but out
here, this stuff is good enough to get you a nice long
prison term and the liability of a couple of million
dollars.
Since this is a topic that has been hotly debated for
the last 15 years ("hey I'm a home user with a 3d
hobby, you expect me to shell out $2750 for a copy of
lightwave?!" Vs "we spent many millions creating
lightwave, why should we care *where* you use it? If
you use it, pay for it"), I'm not going to go into the
moral angle of it. What you do with your pc is your
business.
But if your statements are on public view, it takes
one statement, from one person, to make the public
believe the forum deals in warez ("hey these guys
don't think warez is a problem, therefore they're
definitely into a lot of warez"). That is what the
public is all about.
Better to shut down the list than to get branded a
warez group. This is reality out here, very
consequential reality.
