Dear Anindya,
nice to know that u have got the cds finally. I am also using RH since last
3yrs. but the worst thing in RH that the later versions always avoid the
cooler and helpful applet of it's previous. specially the disk space
checking applet of GNOME is not present in RH8. I also fully agree with u
that the menus are changed totally and I don't support it. again mpg123 is
not there. nor any vcd player.

I have tested MDK first time with MDK9. it is just great. by the way MDK is
specially tuned for Pentium processor. so it runs faster on the Pentium
machine. but u can get the speed in any distro. if u compile the kernel
based on ur h/w. atleast I also do this. MDK totally based on RH. but with
a polished look and u get some vcd players there which is not available in
RH. (u have to download those for RH ) . Finally RH Linux is known widely
than MDK and almost all the books are based on RH Linux.

My xwindow appears very poor in RH8. since this distro has the Xfree86
server version 4. there is no support for my vga (which is a little bit
old) so I have to use VESA driver. but MDK9 has both version 4 and 3.3.6 of
xfree86 so for X , MDK gives just a fine support in case of mine.

ALSA is present in MDK9 but not in RH. So I am also in a serious time to
decide what distro. to use. I have no idea about debian but heard about its
superiority over RH, MDK or any other distro. of linux. Siddhartha also say
so. before taking the final decision I want to test the deb.. also.

 happy linuxing
