my feelings on this matter : 1. ilug-cal meetings (or any member meets) are with the single purpose of members interaction and fraternising .. and are to complement list bon-hommie
2. meetings are looked forward to .. proved time and again by the demands of list members to have regular meets .. with interesting things thrown in 3. meetings also give a sense of real world and continuity .. and fulfill that eternal need for person to meet/feel/see/interact with others so : a) sharninder feeling left out is something no member would want b) any member new to calcutta is like a guest to our city c) thank goodness bengali is sooo like hindi .. just imagine what would one of us feel in a chennai lug meeting with tamil flowing as a local thingy conclusion : i) sorry sharninder .. i didn't realise ii) initial hesitation on your part understood .. but most were new faces there .. so feel free to signal your feeling to the senior (read older and also elder) members .. they can set things right promptly iii) thank you for showing more understanding (common platform) and less resentment/anger .. your offer to co-ordinate with raja is welcome wishing you the best ..pk (can't help adding .. sharninder .. don't take very seriously the nicks and cuts from the jabs and jibes of all members here .. its like fencing practice .. keeps happening .. we are having all kinds of flavours in our 'colnels' .. but overall we're just plain friendly and nice .. errr .. i think .. ;-D ) (further comments for all members : i find that face to face we're not sooo acidic .. but emails are sometimes too sharp .. and freedom to punch the keyboard unfettered also results in punching fellow members a bit more than in meetings .. take care guys .. we all can be punched back .. tone of emails sets the pace of eGroups .. too much freedom is like a loaded shotgun .. used wisely it is a great help .. but it has its inherent dangers of cross fire leading to a volley which eventually leads nowhere .. so .. freedom to all BUT restrained by oneself .. how does it sound ? strange ! huh ?) ----- Original Message ----- From: Sharninder <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Sent: Saturday, December 07, 2002 7:26 PM Subject: [ilug-cal] [OT] Disappointed > just came back from the ilug-cal meeting and being a non-bengali (i guess > the only one) was a little disappointed. this was the first time i > attended an lug meeting anywhere. i think i clearly mentioned that i > belonged to chandigarh and did'nt understand bengali. all the discussion > was in bengali and only the decisions were in english. and that was what i > understood.still i got the hang of the discussion and now that we are > speaking on acommon platform, Mr. Raja guha ( i hope i spelled it right ), > i amvolunteering for the Campus 2003 event.
