Well... It *is* OK to post security updates on lists like this. Take a look at LIG/LIH and see Raju's posts there. Security advisories have always been considered OK for posting to LUG lists as long as it is plain-text.
However, this type of posting *DO* generally require following a certain format, and Sankarshan has not followed that format. That is undesireable when fwding a security advisory. The purpose of the format is essentially to identify clearly the point of origin of the advisory, and a brief abstract (generally a single line of text) to indicate the nature of the problem addressed and severity levels. (and optionally the pgp fingerprint of the person posting, so that it can be verified). hth, --indra. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Sumeet Madhukar Moghe" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: "ILUG CAL" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Sent: Monday, February 03, 2003 8:28 PM Subject: Re: [ilug-cal]http://www.redhat.com/support/alerts/linux_slapper_worm.html > On Mon, 2003-02-03 at 06:31, Sankarshan Mukhopadhyay wrote: > > We have become aware of a worm, labelled the Linux.Slapper.Worm, that > <snipped> > Tell me something, isnt it more prudent to refer to the site containing > the info than copy paste the entire s**t ??!!
