Hi, In its latest quarterly filing with the Securities & Exchange Commission, MSFT for the first time says that it may have to lower its prices to counter the threat from OSS.
The filing which warned SEC of Open-Source threat to its business said, "To the extent the open source model gains increasing market acceptance, sales of the company's products may decline, the company may have to reduce the prices it charges for its products, and revenues and operating margins may consequently decline," BTW, for those who are interested, there is a nice on-going thread on this at http://slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=03/02/04/0329217 *grinning* A lot of ravings and rantings going on at Slashdot but look beyond it and you'll probably land up with a few very good point for your next bout of FLOSS advocacy. ;-) More about this story from : http://www.eweek.com/print_article/0,3668,a=36573,00.asp The actual MSFT filing with SEC : http://www.microsoft.com/msft/download/MSFTQ03-2_10-Q.doc cheers, --indra. -- To unsubscribe, send mail to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with the body "unsubscribe ilug-cal" and an empty subject line.
