Hi, The Japan Govt's Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry has announced its plan to spend 1 billion yen (US $ 8.3 million) in funding Asian software developers working on the open-source software for consumer electronics goods based on Linux OS.
Japan will start disbursing these funds from 1st April -- the beginning of next fiscal year. Aside from this, Japan has already budgeted US $ 4,16,000 for the next fiscal to study the possibility of switching government computers to an open-source operating system.
