Hi,

The Japan Govt's Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry has announced its
plan to spend 1 billion yen (US $ 8.3 million) in funding Asian software
developers working on the open-source software for consumer electronics
goods based on Linux OS.

Japan will start disbursing these funds from 1st April -- the beginning of
next fiscal year.

Aside from this, Japan has already budgeted US $ 4,16,000 for the next
fiscal to study the possibility of switching government computers to an
open-source operating system.
