Hello saurabh, Firstly, WELCOME to this group. Well, your questions are not very clear. Anyway let me try to answer your queries. This is a loosely knit group of some people who use GNU/Linux or (Open/Net/Free)BSD as their Operating System and who believe in the concept of FREE SOFTWARE, where Free means Freedom. For more info visit www.gnu.org and www.gnu.org.in These free software doesn't come with official support, though in most projects like Open Office, the available official support is immense. So, you need to form groups to give support to each other. This concept also helps you to come in touch with different people and learning a lot which is a part of the FREE SOFTWARE MOVEMENT, which is a movement to propagate Free Software. In case you are confused about what Linux is, Linux is a Kernel which is used by the GNU/Linux operating system that we use. A Kernel is a software that distributes your hardware resources(like memory, Processing Power) to the different programs running on your machine. This job is very important on a MULTITASKING ENVIRONMENT. For more information visit www.kernel.org The list admin of this group is Indra-da and Mr. P.K.Sharma is a very enthusiastic member of this group. This group is not officially connected to any project development and all projects have their own development websites and mailing lists where you can join if you are interested in that project. But if you have any questions about programming and application development on the Unix platform, you can definitely ask them in this group.(This is a support group after all!!) About your friends, we all hope that you will, on behalf of our (as well as yours) group, try to make them understand the importance of the Free Software Movement in our society, as you are a part of it now. I hope that I have been able to answer some of your questions. Looking forward to your active participation in this group, Arko
