No , u see u dont get me here. The problem occurs only when I have the line 

 initrd=/boot/initrd-2.4.18-14.img
in lilo.conf.
This is the stuff which I have been working with for quite some time
now. Even my other kernels running on RedHat 8.0 with their respective
initrd images give the same problem. When I comment that line out, it
boots up just fine. But I obviously wanna use the initial ram disk.
