Subject: [ilug-cal] [PROPOSAL] Changes to monthly LUG meetings and call
to
VOTE
Dear members,
<snipped>
I have the following proposals to make:
PROPOSALS
==========
[1] Scrap all cover charges for LUG meetings (we can review this
decision at the end of a 6 months time-frame)
if you are suggesting an interim cessation of this pending further
review and revision, i agree.
[2] Getting hold of a venue where we don't have to pay for just to it
use
or have to indulge in gratuitous give-n-take, something we don't have
the means to do.
[3] There will be no more hiring of chairs etc.
agree. the infrastructure should be in-place.
[4] Shifting of meeting day to Friday late afternoon/evening
ahem !! iLUG-Kolkata has past precedence of meetings ramblings on and on
and on... if this means that meetings will be a bit more conscious on
the 'time factor' then i see no objections to the above.
The point - #4 is of particular importance. The weekends being off-days
at many places, it is difficult to access them, as the office and class
IV stuff are mostly on hoiidays.
^^^^^^^^^
surely an unintended typographical error !! yes - you are correct, but
then the pro side is that people can attend without having to rush
straight in from their place of work. for my part i agree. weekends are
a problem.

The benefits of holding the meetings at JU CSE Dept are many:
[1] a permanent venue with large seating capacity and meeting most of
the requirements in terms of equipment (e.g. OHP is easily available)
[2] well-known place and easily commutable location.
[3] participation JU CSE dept students and profs, hence possibly a
better technical environment.
[4] possibility of easily holding our larger events at JU campus (this
is a distinct possible that I've discussed with the JU Pro VC Dr Thakur)
JU being designated as the centre for excellence in education as well as
having high NAAC rating (correct me if i am wrong - tathagata ?) this
seems prima facie a very nice idea.
good show.
warm regards
sankarshan
ps: [1] Mr Sudhir Banerjee seems to have an ironic sig line in his
support mail - intended or happenstance ?
[2] Sumeet M Moghe has done excellent work in furthering the cause of
FLOSS in this part of the state. his dedication and willingness to exert
himself is commendable. good work sumeet.
