Hi,
Had to burn a CD today - thought I would try it out without doing scsi
emulation.
My kernel version is 2.6.0-test3mm2
I turned off scsi emulation by hdd=ide-scsi from the lilo.conf file, did
a lilo -v, and then rebooted.

When the system was up again, I gave the command

cdrecord dev=/dev/hdd driveropts=burnfree fs=32m -data foo.iso

This version of cdrecord determines the optimal speed of the CD
automatically - and before, I had used CDs from the same set that I used
now, and had got average speeds of around 12-14x. However, this time,
the average speed was approx 23x - quite an improvement.
I was using the version of cdrecord that ships with Redhat 9.0

-cheers-
sdg

WARNING: Don't try this at home unless you have linux 2.5.45 or above.
Also, remember to do a cdrecord dev=/dev/hdx -checkdrive
before doing anything else.
