I have DFM-560ES DLink external modem. but there is no S/W to detect it. I
have just configured it with KPPP & everything is going fine . since urs is
internal u can try to detect it with "DISCOVER" tool. though not very sure
but u can try with the unstable version of kudzu also. u have to download it.
also check "man wvdial" to see its options.

for TV card application xawtv is cool. also see "Linux VDR Project" . but
first check whether ur chip will be supported under linux from linuxtv &
video4linux sites. I can't remember the exact address so just googling.
for remote application LIRC is more than enough.
