The latest version of the Mac thingy - Panther (with some crazy version
number ;-) has a nice feature called Fast User Switching.

Of course, we can do a startx -- :1, but that may be a scary thing for
newbies - and I found a better way of doing it.

See http://www.ilug-cal.org/images/FUS.jpg for a screenshot.
The main desktop is mine - while the window inside is running my mom's
desktop :-D.

To use this cool feature - you will need to have (most probably), a
latest version of GDM. Log into GNOME, go to applications->System
Tools->New Login In a Nested Window.

It seemed to be a little buggy at times (with the mouse cursor
disappearing without any warnings) - but I guess that has to do
something with me having different mouse icon themes for the two
desktops.

Nevertheless - it's a cool feature to have around.

-cheers-
