While updating database with 'updatedb', the screen filled up with this
message for the first time 'error 990' with some files in my
'/opt/OpenOffice1.1/share/template/english/wizard/web'
Later, I went to the directory, and when used 'ls' or 'ls -l' or ls -il', the
only message it was showing had this structure:
'ls: <filename> : unknown error 990'
In fact, all the commands i used, like 'cat', or 'cat /dev/null > <filename>',
or 'rm' or anything, the same result was there:
'<commandname> : <filename> : unknown error 990'
I tried 'rm -fr /opt/OpenOffice1.1', it removed everything except those twenty
or so files in the 'web' directory in '/opt/Openoffice/ ...'
Then I tried to reinstall OpenOffice, it worked fine, except that, while
reinstalling it gave some error messages concerning those files that they
could not be created, wanting me to tell whether to retry, and with 'retry'
it went forward and then finished it.
The OpenOffice is working fine too. But still the same problem with those same
files.
I tried to use 'fsck.xfs' from my boot CD of SuSE 8.2. The command prompt
returned nicely. But the problem persisted.
The same thing happened when i tried from RedHat 9 in my box.
Do you have any clue?
