Just completed my semester exams and free at last ;) Happy Christmas to all of you!
Now the question: How to dial in to a computer connected to a 56KBPS Modem(running a Dial In daemon) from a computer (on a LAN) on the internet ? Here's the diagram of what I want to do : LAN Computer dials my phone number => Internet => My Modem with a Dial In daemon running => Authenticates the remote computer and connects to it => Files transferred from remote computer to my computer. (I have heard about PC to Phone calling, but can you dial in to a computer using it ?) Here's the details: Well,I came to know of a broadband (Sify) parlour in our neighborhood. Unfortunately, they don't have CD Writers... So what I want to do is, download files at the parlour and then dial out from a computer(which is on LAN of the parlour) into my home computer(connected to a modem and running a service like mgetty) and transfer the files.. I know howto interconnect(dial in) two remote modems through a phone line or howto transfer files between two IP addresses but this one beats me. Please don't ask to connect my home computer online, then connect from the parlour to my home computer and transfer the files - I can't afford to keep my computer online that long! Remember - by dialing in into my home computer I don't have to pay ANY phone bills ;) Though the transfer speeds won't be > 28 KBps, but this is a novel idea for cash starved people like me !
