Dear Mr. Das,

I am using the broadband connection from sify. I have a RJ45 terminated
CAT5 cable coming into my server. The process of connection is that
without logging in you are able to ping the gateway address of the service
provider. But once you need to get beyond the gateway you need to log in.

Till a few weeks back the logging procedure was to point the browser to a
specific URL and there we had to give the userid and the password. That
makes one logged on. But from middle of July sify requires the use of
Broadband Client to connect. They provided a client for Linux as well. But
this client behaves erratically. Sometime it connects, but most of the
times it comes up with UML errors and fails to connect.

Please let me know if any more information is needed. If you have the time
and are in Kolkata, I can also show you the setup.

I was using the RH box to run SQUID,SAMBA, DHCP, BIND,SENDMAIL and
FETCHMAIL to cater to a tiny network. Now I am using a windows box to
connect to sify. All the functions are now on hold. This is a pretty bad
scenario and I need some help.

With regards,

Goutam
