OK, this sounds like a good lead. I'll ask on the fedora list and report
back.

Hmmm.. alsamixer doesn't show me a "PC speaker" volume bar. The only
ones I see are H'phone, PCM, Line, CD, Mic, Mic boost, Video, Phone,
Aux, Capture, Mix, Mix Mono, and some of these seem to be disabled.

I don't think I'm doing the right thing, but here's what I get:
   % /sbin/modprobe emu10k1
   FATAL: Module emu10k1 not found.

Aside, the files under /lib/modules/... look like foo.ko intead
of simply foo.o, and they have execute permissions. Has the method
of dealing with modules changed? (If I'm wasting your time, maybe
you could just tell me where to look and I can RTFM.)

Right now, I'm running with the onboard soundcard. I don't suppose
the current lsmod output will help? I guess what you're interested
in is what I get after disabling the onboard audio from the BIOS, and
rebooting?

Thanks for the tips,
Mandar.
